Course Overview
The Summer Mountain Leader Scheme is designed for people who would like to lead others through the hills and mountains of the uk and Ireland. The scheme will give you all the knowledge and skills needed to become a confident and professional outdoor Mountain Leader.
Mick is a Course Director for Mountain Training and works very closely with Leading Edge in Snowdonia for who he is a director for and these courses are run through them.
Leading Edge assessment courses are run in a relaxed and friendly manner which allows you to perform at your very best. They strive to make your course as enjoyable as possible and will use the opportunity to help develop you further throughout the week.

PRE-REQUISITES
Before you book onto a Mountain Leader assessment, make sure you have done the following:
You must have attended a Mountain Leader training course (or have been granted exemption)
You must be familiar with the syllabus
You must have logged a minimum of 40 Quality Mountain Days in three different regions of the UK and Ireland
You must have logged at least 8 nights camping, including at least 4 nights wild camping
You must have physically attended and completed (i.e. not online) a first aid course which involved at least two full days or sixteen hours of instruction and included an element of assessment
The Mountain Leader assessment is 5 days long and includes a two night expedition.
CONTENT
Over the five days we would cover all the areas of the scheme syllabus:
Group management
Navigation
Access and the environment
Hazards and emergency procedures (including steep ground and rivers)
Equipment
Expedition skills
Weather
Background knowledge
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
You will need equipment to allow you to operate in the hills safely and spend two nights out out wild camping.
